Foster dogs, Bandit and Tula Update

01 March

So the dynamic foster duo Bandit and Tula began their Canine Good Citizen class yesterday. We had to postpone the class for about five weeks or so due to so many snowstorms, so we were excited to back in the groove. I was afraid they made have lost some of their training but they picked it back up like nobody’s business. I will admit this winter was a tough one for the humans, so we didn’t spend nearly as much time training them as we would have liked, hardly all if we are going to be honest here. Definitely slacked on the human end of things but the canines did not disappoint. Dogs are smart.

The Canine Good Citizen class is definitely a lot more challenging than basic obedience and the kids did really well. Tula is more distracted and uneasy in her “down stays” and has trouble holding them for long with all the activity around her but we’ll work on that. She still doesn’t like to be touched, so it does make the praise end of things a little tricky. Bandit does really, really well and made us proud. It has only just begun though, so we shall see. Bo and I switched dogs mid-way through (I started with Bandit and he Tula) since Tula seems to react better with me, or at least I think, so we want her to be successful, but also want her to be comfortable with commands from both men and women. She’s going to have to be trained by both of us but I do feel she does better with women. She will work for chicken I can tell you that.

Next up will be Jewels and Cowboy for basic obedience and whoever else comes to the Ruff House that can benefit which will probably be everyone. Honestly, I don’t know a dog that couldn’t use training. This is good stuff and it also increases a dogs chances of having a successful transition to their new homes when they are adopted which is the ultimate goal.

Happy dogs and happy people.
