Adopter stories: Gale and Charlie
The following is a guest post and testimonial from one of our adopters, Gale, and the story of how she met her beloved rescue dog, Charlie. For more information about the Peace and Paws adoption process, please visit our adoption page.
My name is Gale Jones and I met my Charlie through Peace and Paws Rescue. I knew I wanted to get another dog at some point and when I saw his face, how much hope was there in his eyes, I knew I needed to move forward and see if I could get him into my life.
I saw his photo on Peace and Paws’ Facebook page. He looked to be in rough shape. Charlie had been dumped off on the side of a road in Georgia, flea ridden, skin infections, and emaciated. He weighed 34 pounds, about half of the size he should have been. Melissa drove down to Georgia to bring him north because he was not in any condition to travel by transport. That right there showed me how caring Peace and Paws is.
Peace and Paws made sure Charlie went to a foster home that would initially take good care of him. And they did a great job to get him on the mend. But he was causing some issues because of his separation anxiety so a new foster home needed to be found, so that is where I came in. I was at a point in my life where I could be home most of the time to care for him, to help ease his anxiety. After all the references were checked on me (I was so happy to see that they really do call the people and the veterinarian’s office), I went with my other dog to meet Charlie, to see if we were a good “fit” and we were!
I had never fostered a dog before or cared for a rescued dog who needed lots of attention. Peace and Paws was so wonderful to “work” with. It felt (and still does to this day) like family. I took Charlie for his vet visits while fostering, and Melissa from Peace and Paws also went. I had access to Peace and Paws for any questions I had or problems if they arose. They are a wonderful organization! Physical therapy was set up for Charlie and basic dog training was set up and all paid for by Peace and Paws.
When Charlie was cleared at the vet’s for adoption, I adopted him. I knew we were meant for each other and Peace and Paws agreed. It has been a year and three months since Charlie came into my life and I wouldn’t trade a minute of it. He has taught me so much about dogs, about patience, about the unconditional love that they have.
I would recommend Peace and Paws to anyone wishing to foster or adopt a new furry family member. They do match the world’s greatest dogs to the world’s greatest people.
Thank you Melissa and Bo at Peace and Paws!! You are the world’s greatest animal rescue!!
Love,
Gale & Charlie (woof).
